Retro Fashion * Stylo 198♥

Retro fashion has always been one of my favorites. I love wearing demure elegant pieces that give you that classic glam look.

This is what I wore to the Fashion Industry Mixer event that StylingOn hosted last Thursday at the upscale Carlton Hotel in NYC. ♥

This posh event gathered stylists, designers, fashion bloggers, editors and journalists looking to network with some of the finest people in New York’s fashion industry.

I wanted to wear something fresh but glam and stylish. I thought this summery floral print dress with linear designs would give me the perfect look.

This dress also camouflaged some of my imperfections flattering my figure big time, being that scuba midi dresses tend to enhance your figure.

I chose to add these super high beige pumps and a black clutch. As you can see all the accessories are in solid neutral colors, being that I was already wearing a super busy patterned dress.

I also wore minimum jewelry. Regarding the Makeup, I chose neutral eyeshadows paired with a red wine lipstick.

I had a great time at this event. I was able to meet great talented people, all with common likes and interests.

Red And White With Houndstooth * Stylo 174♥

Red and White is an unusual combo for me, since I don’t own many garments in red, but I honestly tried it this weekend and I loved it! ♥

As you can see, I am wearing my favorite pair of houndstooth leggings, which I have previously paired with other colors like black, white, royal blue and mint, but never with red before…

The cable knit long cardi I am wearing is an exquisite vintage piece which is as old as I am. It was a gift from my father to my mother the same day I was born. My mother gave it to me and it has been in my closet ever since. It features wooden buttons and a sash by the waist. I only wear it for special occasions.

I chose to add white booties and a winter white snood as well as a black crossbody.

It was snowing on Saturday, so that’s why I added a snood and some cute finger-less gloves.

I love how this Stylo turned out, and with it, I have learned that we must get out of our comfort zone and experiment with different color combos, always willing to try something new.

Hope everyone enjoyed the weekend and that you are all ready for a new and adventurous week ahead!  😉  🙂  😉

Maria Felix La Dona: A Photographic Tribute

A couple months ago, I went to Soho in New York City and I had the privilege to work with the great and awesome photographer Sonsiree Martinez. She came up with this incredible project and I could tell you I was really thrilled since day one, so as per her suggestion and following her vision, I incarnated the so powerful and incomparable diva Maria Felix La Dona. María Felix is doubtlessly the most famous Mexican movie star till today’s date, who created an image of a tough woman who went beyond the traditional role of Latina women back then.

I was a little concerned on how I was going to personify this gorgeous and glamorous woman, since all she exudes in all of her pictures, besides her innate glamour, is power, strength, magnetism and some sort of a unique enigmatic allure. I feel women already have all of these qualities within them; it is just that we all have a unique way of expressing them and of course she had her own. Besides, I didn’t want to be a bad copycat of Maria Felix La Dona, so I decided to study her a little deeper to be able to connect with her energy and charisma and then introduce my own, so the project could be a total success.

I identify myself with Maria Felix La Dona a lot. As Sonsiree describes her, she was a very powerful and enigmatic woman who her uniqueness made her become the starlet we all know in today’s world. She rebelled to the women submission which till this day Hispanic society believes in. She loved Fashion and had a very peculiar sense of style and she also loved Jewelry. It is uncertain what really made her personality so strong. Some rumors say her brother’s death made her this way. I truly believe life is a continuous learning experience we all need in order to grow and improve as human beings, but it is very important to be able to canalize all the negative situations we go through, so we could learn from each one of them and move forward. To me, the key relies on not taking everything personal and not holding on to any good or bad situation. If we are able to see everything that happens to us just as a learning experience and that’s it, I believe we are automatically opening the doors to something much better and more challenging. At the end, our experiences and everything we learn and master will be the only things that will remain with us.

I would like for all of us to be able to express that María Felix we all have in us, by always being confident, strong, powerful and magnetic. We all have what it takes; it is just a matter of working on our inner beauty, our self esteem and also changing our mindset.

Now I will leave you with an article written by the talented photographer Sonsiree Martinez:

A Day with Dianie Collado

By: Sonsiree Martinez

I had the great opportunity to meet the enigmatic Dianie Collado through the Metaphysical classes we both go to every week. One day I approached her being that I already knew about her talent to transform creating a different look every week and sharing it with hundreds of people through her Blog: “Lakshmi in Trance”, and I said to her: “I would love to do a photoshoot of you”, and she accepted really happy. But we never put it into agenda.

This year I had the chance to create a project representing the legendary María Félix, but I needed the perfect woman that would have all the qualities that made “La Doña” immortal, and that is when “Dianie” immediately came to my mind. I contacted her right away and just like the first time she accepted really excited, and even more when I told her it was regarding a project about María Félix. We got together for the photoshoot in New York City and that was a day that I learned a lot about Dianie. A person with a very interesting life and part of that is reflected on her Blog. But I also saw another side of her which is her honesty, the confidence she reflects and without any doubt how she tells you very clear her perception of life.

Something that really caught my attention was that she doesn’t call herself a “Fashionista”, since she explained to me that a Fashionista follows trends and she instead creates styles. I learned that you have to be able to play with what you have in your closet creating art just like she does. Ahhhh!!!!! If you ask me if I had the chance to go into her closet? The answer is YES; it was very important to me to be able to understand and get to know her as an artist, and to also be able to connect with her magic watching her create her styles, and I must say that it is something extraordinary that would make someone’s hair stand on end.

And one more thing, soon we will share a documentary about Dianie’s life and you will have the chance to see behind the scenes where all the magic takes place!

Thanks again Dianie for sharing with us the art of creating Beauty!!!!

Stylo of the Week 67♥ *Berry Much Love* Valentine’s Day Outfit Tutorial

February is already here and Valentine’s Day with it. I figured I should come up with a Valentine’s Day Outfit to give you some ideas in case you are looking for something to wear on that special day. My Stylo for V-Day is a combination of two styles. I wanted to mix the romantic and the vintage styles together to see what would come out and this is what I created. I also mixed the two official Valentine’s Day colors: Pink & Red. So I would say the pink, the pearls & flower accessories add the romantic touch, while the red along with the retro hairstyle and makeup add the vintage influence. I also love the fact that this outfit in its two versions favors any figure as it enhances the silhouette with the use of the peplum top and the slim pants / pencil skirt. It makes you look slimmer and taller defining your waist as well. At the beginning I wasn’t really sure if that combination would work, but I must confess I am really thrilled with the outcome… I think the pink makes this Valentine’s Day Outfit a very sweet and delicate one, versus the sexiness and the exotic look that the red contributes with. I can’t wait to wear this Stylo on Valentine’s Day 😉

Stylo of the Week58♥ *Bohemian Highness* Hair, Makeup & Outfit Tutorial

I have been planning this Stylo for the longest! I am a big fan of bohemian looks and maxi skirts. I’ve honestly been looking for this skirt forever, but I couldn’t find it. I finally did and that is why I created this Stylo this week. I love to incorporate vintage items to my looks and this time I was very happy to wear my vintage maxi skirt and cowboy boots. To go with it, I chose to wear a long sleeves turtleneck in a peach color , because I felt the brown with the peach match perfect. I also decided to add this thick studded belt that I got a Mandee two years ago. Since I love to combine brown  and earth-tone colors with gold, I chose to wear my accessories in antique gold. I also incorporated a very eye-catching boho headpiece that I got from GoJane this Spring. The makeup is out of this world. A combination of earth-tone colors with very intense blues…to kill! And of course, the hairstyle goes perfect with the whole look, a bunch of soft curls made with a lot of volume.
