Skin issues affect almost everyone. Even as adults we can experience skin disorders at some point in our lives, making us feel uncomfortable and sometimes embarrassed.
Causes and triggers to these skin issues can vary and it is important to be aware of them, as well as knowing how to manage them.
I personally suffer from rosacea and I have learned throughout the years what triggers it and what to do in order to manage it, this way I know how to keep my skin looking beautiful at all times.
In order to explore ways to manage some of the most common skincare issues and lessen their effects, I decided to share some of the information captured on a graphic presented by Health Perch, a digital health magazine focusing on physical and mental wellness.
I think this graphic is very helpful, because it points out key factors regarding causes, symptoms and treatment, which is the essential information we need in order to identify what we are suffering from.
How To Treat 5 Common Adult Skin Issues
It is a common skin condition that causes the skin to become inflamed or irritated. There is no cure for it, but in most cases, it could be manageable.
Dry and sensitive skin
Red and inflamed skin
Irritants (soap, shampoo, detergents, etc.)
Allergens (pets, pollen, mold, dandruff, etc.)
Foods (dairy products, nuts, wheat, etc.)
Stress or Hormones
Avoid activities that make you sweat
Use a humidifier
Wear cotton or soft fabrics
2. Seborrheic Dermatitis
It is usually a long-term common skin condition that mainly affects your scalp, but it could also affect other areas of your body. It causes red skin, scaly patches and chronic dandruff. It isn’t contagious, and it’s not a sign of poor personal hygiene.
A yeast (fungus) called malassezia that is in the oil secretion on the skin
An inflammatory response related to psoriasis
Seasonal episodes tending to be worse in early spring and winter
Control inflammation (with creams, shampoos and ointments)
Medication that affects the immune system
Cream or gel to fight bacteria
Light therapy with medication
Do not use petroleum jelly
It is a common skin problem that causes brown to gray-brown patches on the face. Melasma is often associated with sun exposure.
While melasma does not cause any physical discomfort, skin discoloration may appear typically on areas of the body more exposed to the sun, such as the cheeks, forehead, bridge of the nose, upper lip, chin and neck and arms.
Causes are unknown but triggers include:
A change in hormones (estrogen supplements and birth control pills)
Cosmetics (skin care products that irritate the skin)
Sunscreen (avoid sun exposure)
Dermabrasion or microdermabrasion
4. Plaque Psoriasis
This skin condition causes dry red skin covered with silvery scales in the form of patches that may itch and burn in areas like elbows, scalp and knees.
Patches may itch
Patches may be covered in silver or white covering
Scratching causes patches to thicken
Causes are unknown but triggers include:
Immune system and genes play a big role
Cannot be contracted from a swimming pool or sex
Often begins after a stressful event, strep throat, cold/dry weather, sunburn
Oral and injected medication
Eat healthy and exercise
Drink alcohol in moderation and do not smoke
It is a common lasting skin condition that causes redness and inflammation in your face producing small red bumps on the cheeks, nose, forehead and chin.
Depending on the type of rosacea, you may experiment:
No one knows what causes rosacea. Researchers have several ideas:
A disorder of the blood vessels that causes them to swell and leads to redness
A genetic problem combined with environmental factors that irritate the skin
It most commonly affects fair-skinned people
Laser or other light treatments
Thickening skin removal by dermatologist
Below the graphic presented by Health Perch that itemizes these five common adult skincare issues, their causes and how to treat them.

Ashy hands could be a result of the exposure to cold or dry air, as well as not getting enough skin hydration.
I personally experience this during winter time. My hands get rougher and super dry. I honestly don’t like showing ugly and scruffy hands, I think that is so unfeminine.
Therefore it is very important to give your hands some extra care when you see these signs, even though I know it could be expensive sometimes.
That is why I gathered 5 easy and beneficial home remedies that will help you repair your hands and restore their beauty and softness without having to spend a lot of money.
Make sure to do these in a weekly basis, and don’t forget to drink plenty of water and stay away from the excessive use of detergents.
5 Useful Home Remedies To Treat Ashy Hands
1. Exfoliant. It is very important to exfoliate your skin in order to remove the dead cells and dull skin.
Mix 2 tablespoons of Oatmeal with 1 tablespoon of Yogurt. Rub vigorously in a circular motion for a minute or two. Rinse with lukewarm water.
Or you can use my Homemade Organic Body Scrub for amazing results! It is made with organic coconut oil, which is extremely effective at treating skin damaged by the UV rays from the sun.
2. Hand Mask. The same way you do hair and face masks, a hand mask is recommendable to hydrate and moisturize the skin.
Mix a slice of Avocado with 2 tablespoons of Yogurt. Break open a capsule of Vitamin E and add it to the mixture. Apply on hands and leave it for approximately 10 minutes. Rinse off with lukewarm water.
3. Aloe Vera Gel. Works well as an humectant, since it absorbs the moisture from the air to adhere it to your skin. It soothes your skin and it is also an antifungal and antiseptic, specially if you have any burns or cuts.
Apply a small dab and rub it on your hands after applying the exfoliant and the hand mask.
4. Moisturizer. This is an important step, since it will keep the ashiness away and will also contribute to having a softer skin.

Mark Veeder is the plantsman behind the Echinacea GreenEnvy used in Farmacy products, and he has partnered with farming professional Robert Beyfuss to cultivate the plant in upstate New York, which is transported only two hours to the lab, where it undergoes a cold pressing process, similar to cold pressed juices.
I tried their Invincible Root Cell Anti-Aging Serum, which is a serum created to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, surface lines and crow’s feet, as well as firming and smoothing. I loved its texture, it is not oily nor sticky. I love how it leaves my skin really soft and smooth.

Place the exposed mask side on your face and smooth over surface, then remove the other protective mesh; 4. Leave mask on for 20-25 min; 5. Remove mask and gently massage excess formula into the skin.
I received 3 different kinds:
Firming– Tightens and tones aging skin, helping it appear lifted, firmer and younger-looking. Its celery’s high flavonoid content assists in controlling the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and the loss of skin firmness.
Deep Moisture– Reinforces the skin’s natural barrier function, leaving it super-hydrated, plumper and smoother. Cucumber extract delivers high levels of vitamin C which assists in reinforcing the skin’s natural barrier function, helping to maintain moisture levels.
Oil Control– Helps control excess oil production and inflammation, leaving skin clearer and calmer. Carrot extract contains lycopene, which is believed to control the over-production of sebum, helping normalize the elements that contribute to oily, problematic skin. It’s a powerful antioxidant that neutralizes harmful free radicals.
This soothing herb-infused balm forms a protective barrier on the lips, leaving them smoother, softer and fuller. It comes in different flavors: Vanilla Mint, Strawberry Basil, Honey Ginger, Apple Rosemary, Lavender Mint & Citrus Lemongrass.
How To Use It: Apply a small amount to fingertip and gently blend into lip surface.
The Invincible Anti-Aging Serum Is Made With Echinacea Purpurea Which Is Known For Its Great Skin Benefits Like Reducing The Appearance Of Lines & Wrinkles.
Do you get a dry face in Winter? Me too… My face is actually very oily during Summer, then it starts drying up right during Fall and by the time Winter is here it is extremely dry.
The cold weather outside, as well as the indoor heat can wreak havoc on your skin, therefore it is very important to take action in order to prevent dry skin.
That’s why I start taking care of my skin a little differently as soon as Fall arrives, by implementing a few effective steps that help me go through Winter without a problem.
Dry Face in Winter? 5 Effective Solutions
1. Moisturize. Cold weather tends to steal away the moisture of your skin. Make sure to moisture and hydrate your skin with a thicker moisturizer than the one you normally use in Summer. I highly recommend Clinique Superdefense Daily Defense Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 20 Very Dry To Dry Combination and Lancôme Rénergie Lift Multi-Action Lifting & Firming Cream for Dry Skin- Broad Spectrum SPF 15.
2. Don’t Do Hot Baths. This is something that I am guilty of. I looove taking hot baths even in the Summer! But unfortunately they are no good for you, especially during Winter time. Instead, use lukewarm water and do not prolong your bath or shower for too long.
3. Use Sunscreen. Something that I recently learned is that you must always use sunscreen even in winter time! During winter the skin produces less melanin, therefore it is more sensitive to UV radiation. Clouds do not stop the penetration of UV light, so the UV index could still be high on a regular cold day and could definitely cause way more damage on a dry skin, making it lose its elasticity. The moisturizers above recommended contain sunscreen.
4. Use a Humidifier. During winter time, humidity levels frequently drop, therefore using a humidifier will help increase humidity in your home.
5. Exfoliate. Scrubbing your face can remove excess flakes giving way to cell renewal and a more glowing skin. Scrub your face in a circular motion for about 5 minutes. Do this at least twice a week.
