These 2016 Makeup Trends are definitely intriguing and eye-catching. They were spotted at the most recent runways and they promise to stay for a while.
I decided to compile the top five 2016 makeup trends in this post by spotlighting some of the most famous Instagram Makeup Artists featuring these trends.
If you want to achieve such trends you must follow them on their IG accounts so you could keep up with their tutorials and tips.
The Top Five 2016 Makeup Trends
Contouring gives way to Strobing which concentrates on using illuminating products giving you a dewy and more youthful glow.
Citing PopSugar: “Strobing focuses exclusively on highlighter, applied where light would naturally hit your face (so, your cheekbones, brow bones, the center of your forehead, down your nose, and on your chin.) Dabbing on these soft, shimmery shades will make your complexion look radiant, fresh, and healthy while giving you an ethereal oomph that is sure to turn heads.”
Amrezy is one of my favorite IG Makeup Artists. To me, her signature is that always perfect highlighting. I chose this pic because it shows the strobing technique in all its splendour.
Used: Armani luminous silk foundation mixed with CoverFx cream foundation. Nars creamy concealer mixed with @urbandecaycosmetics naked concealer. @anastasiabeverlyhills cream contour kit set with @katvondbeauty powder contour kit @maccosmetics “Peaches” blush and “Oh Darling” highlighter mixed with @bobbibrown “Bronze Glow” highlighter. @maccosmetics eyeshadow “Nylon” on the tear duct.
2. Blue Makeup
Blue eye makeup is definitely eye-catching and it will be a big trend in 2016. The key relies on accentuating specific areas, meaning, if you are concentrating on your eyes, you would focus on corners, eyelashes, eyeliner or lid. If you are daring and avant-garde, you can go for some blue lips, just like Lupita Nyong’o did at the London premiere of Star Wars.
Kelvin Possidônio is a professional makeup artist and a tutor from Brazil. He chose to emphasize his eyes with an electric blue eyeshadow.
Maryamnyc is a makeup artist who is always innovating and does not mind sharing her techniques through her awesome IG videos.
Used: @emcosmetics liquid liner in Navy Script, @eyeko Midnight Blue black magic mascara and @flutterlashesinc Sierra lashes.
Glitter makeup is already showing in many tutorials going from “…graphic cat-eyes to subdued metallic lids. Whether you prefer a touch of shimmer in the inner corners or full-on dramatic smoke…” Refinery29 says.
Here I chose Maryamnyc again, because I totally love this glittery eye makeup. It is perfect for anyone, because it features just the right amount of glitter, and it is super easy to achieve.
Used: @lorealparisusa silkissime liner in Silver topped with @urbandecaycosmetics glitter liner in Glam Rock.
4. Cherry Pout
We saw the models on the runway “appear bold and beautiful with those cherry red lips and the slightly frizzy half ponytails.” as stated on Fashionisers.com. To achieve a more natural look, you can pair it with neutral eyeshadows and perhaps a catty eyeliner.
Love how Yariszbeth adopted the trend. She is a NY Makeup Artist who is famous for her neutral looks. I think this is actually the first time she wears Red on IG, and we are certainly loving it! She did not state what shade she is wearing but I got you! I highly recommend Legend from Paula Dorf, above featured.
5. Bronzed Eyes
This is another trend we saw on the runway. I personally think this makeup trend is perfect for any season. You can wear a bronze eye shadow all around the eye by itself, or you can instead combine it with smoky eyes, if you want to add more drama to the look.
Just like NayeOna did. I love her always unique approach. She is a creator and it is always transforming. Her style is very dramatic and eye-catching.
Shadow: @meltcosmetics dark matter stack and @strobecosmetics world eater.

You have probably been wondering how to wear a blanket scarf, after seeing them displayed all over the stores and on the internet.
I did ask myself that question, because I thought that if I was going to invest in one, I might as well learn multiple ways to style it.
I decided to check out how other bloggers have been styling theirs, and I found 9 amazing and unique ways to make the most of your blanket scarf!
I really hope you enjoy these tips & pics as much I did! I really love every single way these awesome bloggers decided to wear their blanket scarves.
1. Handkerchief Style
Cortney from Cort in Session Blog suggests you wear your blanket scarf as follows:
1. Unfold your scarf.
2. Fold it across evenly to create a triangle.
3. Grab the two far ends of the triangle, one in either hand.
4. Cross the two ends behind your head.
5. Pull them around to the front.
6. Tuck the two ends slightly under the rest of the scarf and fluff it out until the desired look is achieved.
2. Around And Around
You can actually wrap a real blanket around your neck, just like this pic from Wit & Delight that K Sarah / Designs is featuring on her blog.
3. Poncho Style
I love Lily’s approach from # By Lily, where she converts a scarf into a poncho looking one. As she says, it looks super fancy, and all you need to do is add a waist belt.
4. Belt Over
Or you can simply throw a blanket scarf over your neck and tie a belt on top of it and around your waist, just like Klára Nekulová styled hers. This is similar to the previous technique, but way easier, because here you don’t have to unfold it.
All you need to do here is make a swirl with your scarf and put it through your head, letting both ends hang unequally. I love how Anette is wearing hers here.
Jeans and Roses decided to throw her blanket scarf on her neck, just a bit unfolded, letting it hang loose and a bit uneven.
This is simply the classic way of wearing a scarf. You wrap it around your neck by throwing it to one side, exactly like Wendy from thankfifi did.
This is a very unique and interesting way to style a blanket scarf. You would twist it right before you throw it on your shoulder! This approach is from Lovely Suitcase.
9. On Your Shoulder
Mon Cherries chose to wear hers on her shoulders on top of a red long coat. I think it looks so chic!

Fashion Blogger: Lorna Burford
As a Style and Fashion Blogger I do follow and admire other bloggers as well, and I am very thrilled to be able to feature one of them on my blog. I am referring to the lovely and talented Lorna Burford of Raindrops of Sapphire, a UK Personal Style & Life Blog. She is also the owner of The Fashion Supernova and the editor and a writer of DenimBlog.com.
I have been following Lorna for quite a while and what I like the most about her style is her casual approach always perfectly executed with a touch of classiness and demureness. I learned that she loves denim, black, burgundy and gray hues, and this could be appreciated on a lot of her outfits and looks.
I wanted to interview a style and fashion blogger, and I chose Lorna Burford to be the first one. Here there are a few questions I asked Lorna so we could all get to know a little about her and her style.
How would you describe your style?
“My style is very mixed, but if I had to narrow it down, it would be fairly classic and feminine I think, but in a structured way. I love to wear skinny jeans, heels and blazers, or oversize sweaters, leggings and boots. But my style changes based on my personality, if I’m feeling girly that day then I will dress accordingly, another day I might want something more edgy and tough, so I will wear something that suits.”
How do you manage your time to be able to run 3 blogs on top of your social / personal life?
“That’s a very good question! Sometimes I don’t even know the answer myself, ha ha. I work 24/7 on the blogs and social media, so it’s always a part of my life, even when I’m out and about running errands or having lunch with someone. I do try to take time out to allocate hours just to myself and spend with my boyfriend, but it is a very time consuming job. I mainly split it into sections though. When I wake up I will check my emails, respond to those, then I will do work for DenimBlog, then work for Raindrops of Sapphire and then work for The Fashion Supernova. I do social media and more emails in-between these times too, when it’s needed. But it varies, somedays there will be more work than others!”
What made you start your first blog?
“If you mean Raindrops of Sapphire, I started that blog because I wanted a place online which I could have as my own space. A place that I could share my loves in fashion with others who felt the same way, especially my love for denim, that’s when I opened Raindrops of Sapphire almost 4 years ago. I didn’t intentionally mean for it to be a personal life and style blog at the time, but that’s what it’s grown into and I am very happy with that. It’s a great place to be able to meet people, create a little community and everything. It’s nice! I then started The Fashion Supernova almost 2 years ago as I wanted somewhere I could write about general fashion, that wasn’t personal to me, things that I didn’t feel would fit in with the content and vibe of Raindrops of Sapphire. In reference to DenimBlog, I don’t own the site, but I have been writing for it for around 6 years I think and have been the editor for about 5 years or so. It’s a great site!”
Do you consider yourself high maintenance? Or do you ever go somewhere without any makeup and dressing down?
“I don’t consider myself high maintenance at all, nobody has ever said that I was either. Since I’m a country girl, I’m very much used to that way of living. I go out in my wellies/rain boots all the time when needed and I’m not afraid of country walks, animals, bugs or anything like that in the slightest. I’m very easy going and actually very non judgemental as I accept everyone for who they are. In terms of make up though, I do prefer to wear it, but that’s purely because I have scars on my face and I do tend to feel quite insecure when they show. If I didn’t have them, I wouldn’t mind not wearing make up at all really!”
What would be the perfect outfit for you?
“It’s usually a pair of good fitting skinny jeans, mixed with a fitted blazer over a t-shirt or shirt and some heels (either in boot or platform style), with a cross body bag worn on one shoulder. I love this type of combination. To describe it fully, perhaps my Koral burgundy jeans with my grey blazer with faux leather sleeves, I love anything burgundy, black and white or with grey, it’s a huge weakness of mine!”
Now that we got to know Lorna Burford a little more, I invite you all to follow her and definitely adopt some of her great ideas incorporating them to suit your style!
