I recently dyed my hair extremely light and I am very concerned about taking care of it the right way so I don’t get split ends now that Summer is almost here. I want to share these five great Homemade Hair Masks to prevent and treat split ends:

1. Mix a Tablespoon of Mayonnaise, a yolk of an Egg and a teaspoon of Olive Oil. Apply on your hair for 30 min wearing a shower cap.

2. Heat up 2 Tablespoons of Honey mixed with 3 Tablespoons of Olive Oil. Apply on your ends. Leave it on approx. for 20 min.

3. Take a bottle of Beer and pour it all over your head. Make sure the beer is fully soaked into your follicles. Leave it on for 15 min. Or you could just pour some beer into a small spray bottle spraying it on your hair before blow drying it.

4. Mash 1 small Avocado and mix it with 2 Tablespoons of hot Olive Oil. Leave it on for 30 min wearing a shower cap.

5. Mash up a ripe Papaya with 1/2 cup of Yogurt. Apply on your hair and let it sit for 30 min wearing a shower cap.

Hi my hair is very very dry! On Friday of last week, I bleached my hair blonde- it turned out to be white (playboy bunny blonde) hating the colour I then died to dark brown/ auburn. My ends are so damaged and I am really worried because I used to have such nice healthy long hair. Do you think by using the olive oil, mayonnaise and egg yolk mask I would risk changing the colour of my hair? Thanks for your help so much!!!!

Also sorry to bug you again but do you think I can use this natural hair mask then shampoo and then apply a store bought mask as well? Or is that all too much? Thanks so much!

I would recommend pure coconut oil. “On the go”: Put two-three drops on your hand and apply to the tips of your hair and layers, then brush through it. Try to avoid the routes as this will create a “greasy” look even though it’s not.
“Over-night”: Hair should be “dirty”. Brush your hair until smooth. Part your hair every inch or so and pour about a dime-sized amount of oil on your scalp. Do this until your scalp is completely oiled. Massage your scalp and hair for about ten minutes (or longer if desired). Massaging will help wake your nerves up and stimulate hair growth. After massage, put a hair-dryer on low heat and heat your hair (optional). To trap the heat, place a shower cap on and leave it on for at least a couple of hours or all night. All night has the best results. Wash your hair as you would regularly. You can continue to do this process once a week or more (I DO NOT recommend more than once a week; it will rob your hair of its natural oils) or do it every once in a while.

I’m so sorry to hear that Dana. First of all, I recommend you trim your ends, to get rid of split ends as much as you can. You could definitely apply this mask on your hair. It would not change your hair color. You could also use any other hair mask from the stores, just make sure you buy a good one, specially made for damaged hair. Your hair needs all the vitamins and all the treatments it could get right now.

With number one can you use vegetable oil? Is there anything else that mite help my hair I have wavy hair so perm my hair with small curls, and my hair has bad died ends and falls out?

I straightn my hair everyday and wash it twice a week I’m in 8th grade and I’ve been doing it since 6th grade and my hair is really short now do to damage so do you think that these things will help repair it a help growth?

    1. Lakshmi in Trance

They will definitely help Alyssa, but you must stop straightening your hair everyday. You could keep washing your hair twice a week. Do not wash it everyday though.

can you use the first one on dry hair, and does it make your hair greasy after you wash it out?

Hi Geneva, Yes, after dying my hair, it got a little dry, that’s when I started using this hair mask and my hair improved tremendously! Your hair doesn’t turn greasy due to the mask. Just apply it before washing your hair and then use your shampoo & conditioner as always.

don’t some of these recipes make ur hair smell? have u ever tried any of them? do they actually help split ends?

    1. Lakshmi in Trance

No Livia, they actually don’t because you would be applying them on your hair before washing it with your regular Shampoo & Conditioner, except for the one that you spray beer on your hair, since that one you would apply before blow drying it, but I can tell you by experience, it does not smell. As a little girl I used to get my hairlocks done with beer. I personally have tried them all, as I am a big fan of natural and homemade hair masks.

  8. the recipes that call for eggs needs to be rinsed in luke warm water so asnot to cook the egg. And the beer recipe, the beer should be flat first.

    Trimming damaged ends help.

do you really need to put your hair in a shower cap for the first recipe??

    1. Lakshmi in Trance

Hi Sylvie, you don’t have to, but the two reasons why we recommend to wear one are #1 because it would protect you from creating a mess and #2 because your body heat will actually help the treatment work.
