Giving This Holiday Season: Can We Count You In?

Giving is the most precious and valuable action a human being could express. Giving makes us a better person every time we put it in practice. It wasn’t until like three years ago that I learned the real meaning of giving. I was always the kind of girl who loved and enjoyed giving and helping others, but always thought people was supposed to at least appreciate it and every time someone did me wrong I used to always bring up how much I had done for them…wrong! Completely wrong!

I have come to learn that giving is only valid when nothing in return is expected. It is great to give and help others, but the minute we condition this action to receiving something in return, we are washing away any merit we could have earned and the action becomes worthless.

Christmas is around the corner and it doesn’t matter if you celebrate it or not. I think the important thing about the Holidays is to let the Holiday Spirit take over us so we could show love and appreciation to our loved ones, as well as sharing with anyone a little bit of what we have, not what we don’t need! That is not how we give. We must share not get rid of what we don’t want or need anymore.

The other day I was organizing my winter clothes with my mom, and I put aside a few garments to give them out, but there was one I really liked and had second thoughts whether I should keep it or not. Those who know me know how passionate I am when choosing and buying my clothes. But as soon as the person I was going to give my dress to came to my mind, my heart smiled out of joy. So I didn’t give my dress away because I didn’t want it anymore; I gave it with love sharing with others a little bit of what I consider my treasure.

Now, I should not expect anything in return either. Not even a thank you, because by even expecting that, I would be conditioning my action and therefore, making it worthless.

Add some attitude to your outfit this Winter! No matter what you’re wearing, there is always the perfect hat waiting to be picked to go along with your outfit. Whether it is a casual or a more glamorous look, a hat always complements any outfit adding style and charisma to it.

I personally want to get me a Floppy Hat this Winter…not sure if a solid or a pattern one, but I definitely want one. I would wear it with a pair of leather pants or dark jeans and maybe with a patterned wrap along with some statement boots or heels. Ohhh! I so see myself wearing one already ♥

Between Shades of Gray

After having a hectic Thanksgiving and having to work Black Friday for the first time in years, I am completely drained and exhausted. I only slept like 3 hours that night and had no choice but to get up and head to work all day.

After that, by no means I wanted to dress up this weekend…I wanted to feel cozy, warm and comfortable without looking like a mess, so I chose to play with the colors and wear Orange and Brown in between shades of gray.

I got this cozy and eye-catching oversized sweater as a birthday gift and right away I put the look together right in my head. I love gray hues mixed with a bright color! So I added this long sleeves sweater in an orange color along with brown over the knee boots and a leopard print bag to add drama to the whole outfit.

I put my hair in a donut bun and I put on my awesome grape lipstick paired with cat eyes and voilà! I was ready to go. I felt really comfortable and pretty this weekend ♥

Give Thanks with a grateful heart today and everyday of your life. I didn’t grow up celebrating Thanksgiving being that I was born and raised in the Caribbean and back in the days we didn’t know about this beautiful and meaningful tradition. It wasn’t until I came to U.S. when I started celebrating Thanksgiving that very same year. Even though we all may have different menus on our table depending on our culture, we still have in common the main purpose of this Holiday:

Give Thanks With A Grateful Heart!

I am personally thankful for who I am today; for the person I have become; for the crazy but so loving Family I have; for the crazy but also great and Real Friends I have; for having Eva María (my Yorkie) in my life; for the Job I have; for being able to breath and feel the artic cold outside; for having all the clothes and accessories I ever dreamed about ; for the opportunity of celebrating this Holiday today with some of the most important people in my Life♥

There is an infinite list with things that I am grateful for, same way I’m pretty sure your list is; but the important thing is to Give Thanks with a grateful heart everyday and every time you are able to. The more you are grateful, the more you are preparing yourself to receive great things.

It is easy sometimes to forget about all the great things God or the Universe have conferred to us, especially when are going through hardship; but this is the perfect moment to show appreciation for all the good things we have, instead of focusing in the negative and what we don’t have.

I have previously written an article called “Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.” -Oprah Winfrey and I had said that ”by being thankful for everything we have and always expressing it, we are sending a positive message to the Universe and what that means is that we will be attracting more of that positive energy toward us…”

Focusing in our lacks it is just a way of attracting more of those lacks. Today, choose to give thanks with a grateful heart for all the positive things in your Life and make a commitment to do it every single day from now on…

Thanksgiving is tomorrow! What are you wearing? If you still have not decided what to wear, I have the perfect last minute options to create some cute Thanksgiving Outfits! Whether you are hosting or you are just a guest, it is important you take care of yourself looking gorgeous even in the simplest outfit. The key is to feel pretty at all times by making sure you set aside at least half hour to get dressed and put on your favorite perfume.

You all know what I am wearing for this Thanksgiving 2013 and you all know what I wore the past two years. I went from a classic Retro 40’s look to a very singular Retro 20’s style last year. This year I switched to a super Modern, Trendy and Sexy look. I always wear a dress or a skirt, but some of you are not like me and like to wear pants or even jeans. That is why I put some great casual looks together, so if you don’t have a Thanksgiving outfit yet, you could grab and combine some great pieces I know you have in your closet.

Last Minute Cute Thanksgiving Outfits

1. Jeans/Leggings and Cardi – Come on everyone has a favorite pair of jeans and a cardigan in their closet!

2. Shift Dress – Nothing more glamorous and comfortable than a shift dress!

3. Peplum – Almost everyone has a peplum in their closet, either a dress or a blouse. Flatter you figure by wearing your favorite peplum garment.

4. Peter Pan Blouse and Pants – A peter pan blouse instantly adds sort of a whimsical and feminine air to your look. Just add a pair of dressy pants and violá!

5. Sweater and A-Line Skirt with Tights – This is one of the latest trends this season and I think it’s really cute!

Paisley Print for Thanksgiving * Stylo 109♥

Paisley Print is basically known by almost everyone, since it became very popular in the 60′s after The Beatles’ trip to India. Nowadays, we see paisley print bandanas, boho blouses and dresses. I must confess I am not obsessed with paisley print but the meaning of this pattern has always intrigued me and I recently read it has its origin in the Persian and/or Indian culture. For the Hindus it means harvest time, so I guess my choice for my Thanksgiving Outfit could not be more clever and well-suited for the occasion.

I bought this dress at Mandee last week for $24.99 and I wasn’t really sure to wear it either for my Birthday or for Thanksgiving. I ended up leaving it for Thanksgiving because I thought it is a very elegant dress that could be also worn with a blazer over, if you think it is too revealing. I added patterned tights for more drama and a Red Clutch for contrast. I chose to buy this dress because I really loved the velvety paisley print and also because I am a Peplum lover.

I did my hair wavy and chose to wear a soft violet lipstick along with black eyeliner and a blue eyeshadow line.

I love wearing dresses on special occasions so I decided to put together a few options for you to wear this Season. To me, Holiday Outfits should be elegant and distinctive, no matter the style you choose, that’s why I chose trendy fabrics, eye-catching patterns and flattering styles.

Fresh Mint for my Birthday * Stylo 108♥

Fresh Mint

This was one of my Outfits for my Birthday Weekend. I chose to wear this yesterday to receive my immediate family at my place last night. I wanted to wear a dress but not too dressy due to the occasion, so I opted for this casual lace mint green dress that came with this unique skinny double belt. To match the belt I wore my BCBG booties and I also added a colorblocked bag featuring mint green, beige and pink. I chose to wear silver accessories along with a pinkish statement necklace.

I felt really pretty and also comfortable in this dress, just exactly how I wanted to feel! I had one of the best Birthdays ever! Very different but Meaningful! It feels great to see how many people really care about me; I felt extremely LOVED and at the end that is what really counts… Thank you ALL ♥

Stressful Life Events? Change your Attitude

Stressful Live Events?

Hello World! It seems forever I haven’t written my usual Thought of the Day so today I decided to at least write a few sentences to keep in touch with all of you. It has been a hell of a few crazy and stressful weeks and I have been exhausted, drained and stressed out all of these days. A lot of changes, events and more have been happening to the point I found myself a bit down and a little emotional as well, something that it is unusual in me I would say.

But good thing I caught myself reacting the wrong way and I decided to take action. With this being said, you bet I snapped out of it and I am almost back to normal…no quite yet but almost…

Today I just want to say that no matter how much is on your plate or how stressful is your day, do not let all of that take the best out of you. I know it is so easy to stress and get nervous over the uncertain, but do not allow all these feelings to manipulate your state of being. Instead, check your inner resources and get the strength you need; get the wisdom and the will power you already you have within you.

Visualize it as something so simple like going to the stores to get something you need. It is already there waiting for you, all you need to do is go grab it. Feed yourself with all the positive literature and positive people around you. I personally felt great last Tuesday! After having a really stressful day, I felt incredibly awesome at my Metaphysical class that evening. I went home totally recharged of good and positive energy.

As I have learned, if you stress over something, you will end up getting more of the same thing. Instead focus on how you want things to be. Life is not that serious, and after all everything is an illusion…so why stress?

Black and White Stripes * Stylo 107♥

Black and White Stripes are a super dramatic and eye-catching pattern perfect for any season. We all know the Black and White Trend was very popular this Spring and Summer 2013, but it could still be incorporated to the Fall as well, just like I did yesterday by wearing this statement dress to a get together. I bought this black and white stripes dress at Target for only $27.99 last Friday and I chose it because I really loved the neckline and the long sleeves, besides the black and white stripes pattern of course. This dress actually came with a skinny brown belt which I switched for a hot pink one to add color and contrast and I also decided to add a emerald green statement necklace. I think the green and the hot pink go really well with the black and white stripes.

Recently I have been feeling a bit daring by playing with different patterns in one outfit, something that I am not used to doing, but I decided to add more black and white stripes to the whole look by incorporating zebra pumps. I think it is a little risky to wear stripes from head to toe, but I believe the key relies in wearing it with confidence and owning your style. I really like how this Stylo looks!

For the Makeup I chose gold/gray smokey eyes paired with hot pink lips and for the Hair, I decided to wear it loose with soft waves halfway down. I also painted my nails in hot pink. I don’t know why but I so love the contrast created by bright colors when paired with black and white.

Royal Blue Color for my Mondays

Wearing today one of my favorite colors ever: Royal Blue or Cobalt. This is an eternal color that could be worn all year long, since it just looks fabulous on any season. I love pairing royal blue with pink, red, peach, orange, yellow and patterns in black and white like I did today. I chose to wear my lovely royal blue tuxedo pants along with this eye-catching black and white striped sweater. To keep the same colors I added black suede pumps. This is a very simple look for a Monday, but the colors are the ones playing the role here, creating drama and making you noticeable from head to toe!

I love wearing sweaters in Fall and Winter, because you don’t need to iron them and also because they make you feel cozy and warm, but at the same time, they make you look presentable and they go perfectly with a business casual attire or dress code. Adding a colorful solid scarf could be a great choice too. You could wear it in colors like oxblood, pastel blue, fuchsia or magenta, orange or even black.

You can also add a bright pink lipstick and silver accessories just like I did or opt for a more subtle makeup if you prefer and maybe wear gold accessories too; either way it’s fine. I chose to leave my hair loose with soft waves, because it’s Monday, and as I have said on my previous posts, I like to wear my hair loose on Mondays

Animal Prints * Stylo 106♥

Animal Prints are great for Fall and Winter! I may confess I was not too much into animal prints back in the days, but I realized that since a few years ago I started to get into these patterns and now I own a decent amount of garments and accessories in animal prints. I found these leopard print pants in my closet from last year. This is my first time wearing them and I love them. I chose to pair them with a sleeveless turtleneck in black and wearing on top a crop military jacket in a teal color. It is not too common to see people pairing leopard print with teal, but I think the combination is awesome and I really love the contrast. I also decided to wear my zebra pumps along with the leopard print pants; I know it is a little edgy, but once I put them together, I thought both prints looked really nice together.

Shift Dress: Super Chic and Stylish

A shift dress is a simple, above-the-knee dress that lacks a defined waistline. This type of dress is super retro and chic, and also easy to wear; all you need is a pair of sexy heels and maybe a statement necklace.

It is the perfect dress for work and basically any event. It also tends to favor most figures, since it features a loose-fit, hiding this way some of our imperfections.

I recently wore a gorgeous one for my Stylo: Time Shift * Leopard Shift Dress – Stylo 104♥. It belongs to the Eva Mendes Collection at New York & Company. As I say on my post, in the beginning I wasn’t too sure about wearing one, because I thought this kind of dress would make me look thicker; but I changed my mind as soon as I tried it on. Lady in Black * Stylo 105♥

Lady in Black

I was invited to a party this weekend and I wasn’t really sure what to wear. I like to dress up but always accordingly to the occasion and the place, so I opted for the safest way always: The Little Black Dress. I got this Hi-Lo Dress at Forever 21 this week for only $22.80 and I couldn’t have made a better choice! It is a simple but elegant and sexy dress made out of a soft cotton fabric featuring a cutout crisscross back. So what I did was accessorize it with a beautiful gold/mint green Statement Necklace also from Forever 21 ($12.80) and I also added Leopard Pumps and a Metal Belt in antique gold. I chose to wear my Marciano Bag in black and a gold bracelet along with two gold rings.

Regarding the makeup, I opted for the Smokey Eyes/Nude Lips combination, leaving my hair loose with soft curls. I definitely did not look overdressed but I sure looked very elegant and well dressed.

So anytime you have doubts on what to wear to an event, always opt for a little black dress to wisely accessorize it♥

Compete with Yourself

Compete with yourself instead of competing with others. When you compete with yourself you spend your energy on self improving, progress and success instead of developing negatives feelings and thoughts of envy, jealousy and anger toward someone else.

The other day I was reevaluating myself and I realized I have been undermining my effort and my work, just because everything I do does not seem to be good enough in comparison to other people’s work and success. I caught myself measuring everything I am doing based on what other people are doing as well; therefore I was experimenting feelings of disappointment, anxiety and frustration. I knew that if I didn’t make an immediate change, all of this could have resulted in developing negative feelings of envy, jealousy and selfishness.

Competing with others limits you because it is based on external circumstances and other people. When you compete with yourself you are able to take control of the situation, because you are working with your internal resources. Remember that you could never have absolute control of your surroundings, but you can definitely control what is going on inside of you. Everything is controlled inside out.

You then will develop total control of your life by not wasting energy and time focusing on what other people are doing. Instead, you will concentrate on how to beat yourself every day, trying to be better than what you were yesterday by reinventing your path every sunrise, even by taking small steps.

How to Compete with Yourself

According to Sonya Derian in her article Stop Comparing Yourself to Others: An Alternative to Competing with People, you should be asking yourself questions like “What new decisions have you made or what new actions have you taken that have resulted in you moving in a new direction in your life?”. If you have not yet asked yourself these questions, maybe it is time you start doing so.

Whatever might be that you are trying to achieve, you need a plan; you need to set the goal and then work on it. If you need help on how to do to this, please refer to my articles Pursuing your Dreams and The Perfect Formula to Achieving your Goals.

After that, you would need to do the following:

1. Set deadlines. Nothing can get achieved without a deadline.

2. ‘Picture’ someone else working on the same problem. Don’t let them win. Don’t give them a face or an identity, just picture someone unknown, this way, you will not be driving your attention to someone in specific.

3. Reward yourself if you get to achieve your goal within the prescribed deadline. Buy yourself a treat, eat something you like or go somewhere special, for example.

4. Remember to be kind to yourself. Do not punish yourself; be patient and learn how to forgive yourself when you don’t meet your own expectations.

5. Do not measure your work and achievements against other people’s. Avoid comparison with others. Instead, always go back to the “old” you to see how the “new” you is doing.

I am putting this into practice myself! Would you?

Fashion Trend: Soft Pants

Soft Pants are comfortably slouchy casual pants with a dose of sex appeal and usually made out a lightweight fabric, eye-catching prints and most of them have elastic waists and pockets. Soft Pants are a great option for those days when we want to feel comfortable but super chic. They are a great asset in your closet, since they can definitely substitute your jeans keeping that casual look but more polished.

This is a fashion trend that arrived in the Summer and it is definitely staying for Fall. I would pair them with booties, solid sweaters and crossbodies or messenger bags. You can also add cardigans, Fedoras and even flats, but no sneakers please!

Below there are some great ideas I had put together to help you pair soft pants, so you could be ready to rock this fashion trend this Autumn!

Casual Style *Beige and Denim – Corporate Mondays

Casual Style

What about Fall Casual Style for a Monday? Today I opted for a casual style mixing neutral colors with denim. I chose to wear a Beige Blazer paired with casual Denim Pants. I also wore a White Cami under with an oversized Infinity Scarf in a natural color. To finish the look I decided to wear these Taupe Fergie Pumps that actually matched perfectly with the entire outfit.

This is a great combination since beige and any other neutral color looks very well paired with dark denim. Also, blazers look awesome with an infinity scarf over them, besides the point that you will feel cozy and warm on those cold days. You could definitely opt for skinny pants if you prefer, and you could also choose a different top under the blazer, maybe a blouse or a button down shirt. I chose to wear a cami too go light on the layers and to be able to wear my scarf all day, even though is always COLD by my desk!

I have my hair in a ponytail and as usual, my neutral makeup, but you can certainly opt for a bun and maybe a more accentuated makeup. I am wearing gold accessories, but not that many.

I am not wearing a bag on the pics, but you can basically wear any color bag… a nice brown bag or a more colorful one like red, mint green or even in leopard print!

Time Shift

I bought this Shift Dress last month on the very first day Eva Mendes Collection launched at New York & Company. I wasn’t too sure about this style favoring my figure, being that I am a little short and thick, but I changed my mind as soon as I tried it on and saw how beautiful I really looked. Right away I picture my self wearing this dress with my Jessica Simpson Neutral Pumps and my Black Marciano Bag. I chose to pair my dress with neutral colors since the leopard print creates enough drama by itself and we must maintain the balance within the whole look.

I also added a Gold Statement Necklace because I love the combination between gold and leopard print, and also because a statement necklace definitely adds glamour to any outfit. I added a bracelet and two rings, one in a turquoise color to add contrast and also because turquoise also looks great paired with leopard.

I thought about wearing a Bun with this dress, but I soon changed my mind, because I did want to create a glamorous look but not that formal. I still wanted to look fresh and not too fixed up. So I opted for loose wavy hair paired with a Smokey Eyes/Lilac Lips Makeup.

Beaucoo: An Inspiring and Body Positive Style Network

Living in a world that tends to stereotype beautiful woman, the pressure most of us get from Society is very powerful and sometimes could be destructive. I have battled with my weight ever since I was a little girl, feeling the disapproval of my own family members who had always called me “gordita” which in English means chubby. And add to this the fact that I am only 5ft tall, so I definitely broke the mold!

I still consider myself BEAUTIFUL and I do not allow any negative comment to affect my conviction. And the truth is that there is Beauty in everything and everyone! So do not allow anyone to tell you otherwise. It is just a matter of nurturing that inner Beauty and expressing it inside out.

I personally believe your Style is an expression of who you really are. It reflects part of your personality and essence. This is why it is so important not to allow anything or anyone to interfere with expressing it to the fullest. The more you express it, the more it gets polished, ultimately arising as a reflection of your confidence and acceptance.

How awesome is this!

Oxblood Red * Casual Chic Blazer & Denim – Stylo 103♥

I chose to wear my blazer with my favorite pair of curvy jeans from Mandee, because I wanted to create a casual but elegant look perfect for an afternoon or evening outing. I also added heels in a leopard print to add contrast to my outfit. I feel the leopard print goes great with oxblood!

The challenge was to figure out what top to wear under my oxblood red blazer. I had a few options in mind, but I finally decided to go with this crimson red see-thru lace long sleeves turtleneck. I think it adds a sexy allure to the whole outfit, besides a little bit of contrast as well even though both colors, the oxblood and the crimson, are in the same family color.

One accessory that is super noticeable in this outfit is my silk tie-dye scarf which I am wearing in 3 different ways: around my waist as a belt; by my neck as a bow and tied up to my bag. A scarf is a key Fall and Winter accessory that could be worn in different ways adding style to any outfit.

And last, I chose to wear gold accessories since gold creates a wonderful combination when paired with oxblood and leopard print.
